Joe Blanton's Worthless Scouting Report

I remember back in the day that scouting reports would tell me about a pitcher. Example: 'tries to strike everybody out and throws fastballs exclusively when has a two strike count' or 'if feeling confident will throw lots of curve balls.'

Fine that may be a little longer than the average scouting report snippet you'd usually see, but the point is you learned something about the pitcher's abilities.

Anyway, here I am looking at Joe Blanton's scouting report, presented by Fox, and see "gutty performer".

That tells me nothing about her performance. What does that even mean? Is Pedro gutty? What about Cliff Lee or Sabathia or A.J. or Pettitte?

I think the Phillies should run out a pitcher who isn't gutty but rather a pitcher adept at getting outs pitching well.

  1. Did you hear McCarver call say Posada as looking like Tom Brady with all the audibles he was calling behind the plate? I don't know but I think he meant Peyton Manning since he is the one calling audibles at the line of scrimmage 59 times a game.
